Brief Bio
Theresa Meyer is a Research Assistant at University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt mainly in the field of Geoinformatics and UAV photogrammetry since 2015. Between 2014 – 2015, she performed functions as Surveying Engineer mainly in the field of Building Information Modeling (BIM) based on 3d-point clouds. Meyer finished her Master of Engineering in GIS at University of applied sciences Anhalt.

SCOPE

Very large 3d-point clouds are easily obtained from modern 3d-acquisition techniques of photogrammetry and laserscanning; e. g. photogrammetric drone surveying, terrestrial and mobile laserscanning provide in minutes many million 3d-points with additional attributes attached. GIS-specialists use these sensors and regularly ask how to put these large point clouds in their GIS, for visualization, processing and spatial queries in combination with common GIS features. Currently available systems mostly just give rudimentary solutions that sometimes look like workarounds relying on attributed 2d-points. 3d-points and 3d-point clouds need different algorithms and database structures. This special session addresses the problem of large 3d-point clouds in GIS. It is open for researchers and practitioners who can provide concepts, experiences or solutions in this encouraging field.

The main topics include but are not limited to:

- Concepts for 3d-point Clouds in GIS

- Visualization of 3d-point Clouds in GIS

- Processing of 3d-point Clouds in GIS

- Attributed 3d-point Clouds in GIS

- Applications for 3d-point Clouds in GIS

- Extracting Spatial Information from 3d-point Clouds

- Photogrammetry to GIS

- Laser Scanning to GIS

- Data Models and Representations

- Storing/ Managing 3d-point Clouds in Spatial Databases

- Tiling of 3d-point Clouds
