Brief Bio María Teresa Camacho Olmedo, PhD, is a tenured Professor in the Department of Geographical Regional Analysis and Physical Geography, at the University of Granada, Spain, being currently the Head of this Department. Dr. Camacho Olmedo leads the project Simulaciones geomáticas para modelizar dinámicas ambientales II.Horizonte 2020 / Geomatic simulations for modelling environmental dynamics II. Horizon 2020, Spanish Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness and European Regional Development Fund FEDER, as well as previous competitive projects from 2003. Her current research includes land use and cover modelling, simulation models and scenarios, and environmental dynamics. She has published numerous scientific papers and books.

	Francisco J. Escobar Geography, Universidad de Alcalá Spain

Brief Bio Francisco Escobar, PhD, is a tenured Professor in the Department of Geology, Geography and Environmental Sciences, pioneers in Geospatial Technologies, at the University of Alcalá, Spain. He has previously worked as a researcher at the European Commission, RMIT University and The University of Melbourne, and as invited professor at the University of Strasbourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research. Dr. Escobar leads research on cellular automata-based land use modelling and on spatial analysis and geo-visualisation applied to public health. His current research includes analysis and evaluation of modelling outcomes. He is developing geospatial techniques for the characterization of neighbourhoods in relationship to cardiovascular health, as well as the analysis of the spatial distribution of rare and work-related diseases. He has published numerous scientific papers, books and atlases as well as web-based cartographic tools in these areas.

	Jean Francois Mas Centro de Investigaciones en Geografía Ambiental, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Mexico

Brief Bio Jean-Francois Mas, PhD, is a tenured Professor in the Center of Research in Environmental Geography (Centro de Investigaciones en Geografía Ambiental, CIGA) at the National University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM). His work for the CIGA is in the areas of remote sensing, geographical information science and spatial modeling. His research interests include land use/cover change monitoring and modeling, accuracy assessment of spatial data, forest inventory and vegetation cartography. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications, advised 7 PhD dissertations, supervised 12 master degree students and participated in 34 research projects.

	Martin Paegelow Geography, Université de Toulouse Jean Jaurès France

Brief Bio Martin Paegelow, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès, France. He works in geomatics and environmental dynamics and especially in land change modelling by geomatic tools. He published about 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and advised 12 PhD dissertations and supervised more than 80 master degree students and participated in various research projects. Since the beginning of the 2000, he is co-director of the Master degree in geomatics in Toulouse. More information at the web-site of the GEODE (Geography of Environment) laboratory.

SCOPE

This workshop tackles modelling implications in geomatics with the aim of helping researchers and practitioners to make informed modelling decisions. A broad range of available modelling solutions underlying Land Change simulations will be presented. Special emphasis will be placed on scenario building methods. The workshop is structured in three parts; the first part will address concepts and methods applied in Land Change modelling. The aim is to review similarities and differences among models. The second part will cover a number of methodological developments followed by a broad and representative range of case studies undertaken by a large panel of international research groups. The third part summarizes the most commonly adopted modelling software, their functionality and main characteristics.
